In response to SD City Beat's Dec5 2007 Feature about Jamie Roxx
[info]jroxxhatemail
Received Jan. 17 2009

Here is a copy of a letter (unprinted) to City Beat in response to the story about Jaime Roxx.
AnnaMaria Stephens (or the editor) captures the essence of Jaime Roxx in the feature "Warhol devotee Jaime Roxx is selling out while he still can." As long as he stays within the confines of Las Vegas, San Diego and Los Angeles he is safe to pursue his egotistical, no talent deceit to fulfillment. Only in these cities will he find clients with the necessary naivet'e to fall for his 944 Magazine approach to popularity and success.

The dilettantes that are throwing good money after bad by buying his production of mediocre illustration art don't have a clue and all of the hangers on that are primarily interested in being seen with someone that they mistakenly think is important just because someone says they are important, will never really know that he is very unimportant. The real artists in the art world, if they even know of Mr. Roxx, snicker in their martinis at the foolishness of it all and place him alongside of Weiland, Thomas Kincade, Ron Wood, Grace Slick, Leroy Neiman, selling their work in shopping mall galleries, and all the other no talent hacks that continue to pull the wool over the eyes of the ignorant and uninformed.

San Diego is the perfect locale for such "selling out while he still can" and he is laughing all the way to the bank. The biggest tragedy is that Mr. Roxx invokes the name of Warhol, arguably one of the greatest artists of the twentieth century, to perpetrate his fraud.

The blurb at the top of the story gives me an indication that, at least AnnaMaria (or someone) was not fooled. This is a story that is much better suited for The San Diego Reader than City Beat. Why lower yourselves to his level when there are so many talented San Diego artists for you to feature. Your recent profile of Jason Sherry gave notice to one of San Diego's best. Why not continue in that tradition rather than lowering yourselves into the gutter?

R. Larson

Dear Jamie Roxx,

You are a jerk.  Someone sometime, gave you your break and helped you out when you were getting started.  I have emailed you over 35 emails asking for your help in securing a location for me to have my own art show, NONE OF WHICH YOU HAVE REPLYED TO!

I don't understand why you want to keep all of the art business to yourself.

Why won't you email me back?
I am just as good as an artist as you are, in fact I'm better.

Mark

We got this from someone on myspace

JAMIE!!!!!!!!!!!!!! JAMIE ROX!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I know him!!!!!!!! It just clicked!!! It's a long story, and I haven't the time right now, but long story short, he is involved in these pop club whatevers............and he wrote me a myspace message saying he wanted to meet me and introduce me to these people etc, and I kind of knew it was a mass one, but I wrote back anyways..........

so.........I saw him at this art show last week (I was by myself and a little nervous around all these hipsters that are cooler than me, and said "hi, are you jamie??"

 "uh.....yeah"

"Hi, I'm barrie, you wrote me a myspace message the other day and I wrote you back....etc etc"

"Oh, uh, I didn't write that, I have an assistant who does that........so.........."

"Oh...well....I wondered if that was the case, but I'm doing this event etc etc and wanted to introduce myself anyways etc"

"Ok............well.......hi, this is my friend cameron........so..........."

And pretty much ended like that. Wouldn't you be embarrassed if someone asked you about a message like that and you didn't even have a response?? Or you just acted like a huge asshole-better-than-you?? He was SO rude!!!

Mike was out of town, I called him as I left and told him about it, and although I am pretty tough, it really ruined my night how he acted like that. THEN....I saw him Sat night at this event and he rolled his eyes a little at me and said "Mike, that's him!!" He said he was probably embarrassed, but I think he's just an ass. I'm gonna yell at him when I see him again, for realsies!! Look at my cornfed page, he is in my friends not for long though, will leave it for a week so you can see it though. More details upon request.......but yes, what an ass.

"POP ART? Puhleeeze ... Go back to school, learn how to paint for real, and do not bother us until you have soemthing to offer beyond fingerpainted collage. Really. Any child can produce what passes for "modern art" these days. Witness your lack of links for ANY previous work - hence, lack of skills/talent/chops - I am to drive a hundred miles to Vegas and shell out eighty bucks for the chance of seeing your unknown works? Fat chance. There are plenty of excellent local galleries that do not even charge admission.

Are all the local art venues more than aware of your shortcomings and thus forewarned? A show in Las Vegas, I guess that is a step up from displaying your work on a street corner in TJ, but it is still off topic here.

$80 per ticket. Madness and self-aggrandizement at the expense of others.

Pay ME $160 to ATTEND, and I might consider it ... but likely not, given how far Vegas is, and the obvious lack of any clue on your part." ~Live Journalist Farlo

Dear Jamie, I have recently been intorduced to your art and its amazing. To take such a simple concept and dumb it down. Art really needs to get back to the basics in these times and boy do you take it there. And your choice of colour is spectacular I feel like Im in a 50s dinner only with less taste. Its amazing how you can take what Andy did and do it again, and still feel so proud of your self. I can
definately say that I have little to no artisitic skill beyond the term "crafty" but looking at your work I know that I could acomplish something like it, how neato it really makes me feel connected to you!
YA KNOW! Thanks man for giving me something I never thought I wanted, and helping me realize I really DONT!!
With all sincerity, The N.C.
